Reframing Impact

India AI Summit 2026

About the series

Reframing
AI Impact

With world leaders and tech executives descending on Delhi, AI hype is already dominating the India Summit narrative — leaning hard on concepts that matter, but are often co-opted. In partnership with AI Now Institute and the Aapti Institute, we’ve produced a series of interviews with people who bring substance, analysis, and meaningful action to these ideas, before the buzzwords take over.

Across 12 interviews, Alix and expert guests offer clear-eyed conversations about power, geopolitics, and the public interest. Each episode presents a “frame,” unpacking one of these dominant narratives, and a “reframe,” revealing the realities behind them while imagining alternative, people-centered futures.

Reframing "Data Rich"

Dominant narratives label under-resourced regions as “data rich” to signal strategic importance and promise a path out of poverty, but in practice this reinforces colonial dynamics, extracting value while excluding the Global Majority from meaningful economic participation.

Alix reframes “data rich” with Karen Hao, showing how the concept preemptively subjugates these economies.

"Wealthy countries get to come into poorer countries and do whatever they want, extract whatever data, minerals, and labor they want, to get even richer. It’s just repeating history under the guise of technology that's supposed to level the playing field globally."
