You don't need to have it figured out to be here. Bring the half-formed idea, the question you're worried is basic or taboo, the hunch you haven't tested. Think out loud with people who'll take it seriously.
What's said here stays here. This isn't a space for screenshots or quote-tweeting. Members speak for themselves, not their employers. This is a sanctuary within the hot takes hellscape.
Intellectual challenge is welcome, but attacking people isn't. Our code of conduct helps keep The Collective a thoughtful, constructive, and respectful place.

Who we are
The Maybe is a media studio, collective, and critical consultancy challenging the power and politics of tech. The foundation of all of our work is a community of people around the world who have been fighting for a fairer future. The Collective builds on that community and the Computer Says Maybe podcast. It's a new space to hold the conversations and collaborations we've been having for a long time across technology, politics, power, and culture.

You can participate as much - or as little - as you like. There's no expectation that you keep up with everything. Drop into a conversation, ask a question, follow a thread, or spend an afternoon going down a rabbit hole.
You’ll get regular email updates about what’s happening, and 1:1 intros to people we think you'll get on with. You can turn on custom notifications if you want, or just check in when something catches your interest. We are looking for active participants, but there's no single way to participate.
Yes! If you read this page and want to be involved, then it’s for you. Some members work on this professionally, some are here because it affects their life directly, some are newly interested. You don't need credentials - but curiosity, care, and passion are required.
We're charging for this because good communities take work - and because a little skin in the game helps create a space people actually participate in :) That said, we never want price to be a barrier for someone who wants to join. If you'd like to become a member but can't make the cost work, request a spot with our short, friendly form and we'll be in touch.
The community doors open on September 16, 2026. On that day, you'll get a short welcome email from us, invitations to upcoming events, and a nudge to introduce yourself. We’ll ask you to share answers to a few questions, and within your first couple of weeks we’ll make your first facilitated introduction to people we think you'll get on with. No pressure to post on day one - you're welcome to lurk and learn.
Yes. We don't want membership to be the only way to support what we're building. You can sponsor to pay membership forward for someone else.
Like the Computer Says Maybe podcast, this community is global in terms of who it's for and what it covers. But for now at least, content will be English-speaking.
Yes! We’ve had a few requests for this and we're figuring out what group membership looks like. Send us an email. Everyone will have to review and commit to the code of conduct, but we’re game to help organizations that want to encourage their people to take part!
The New Protagonist Network is our community of professionals focused on building media power and forging new narratives. Applications to the New Protagonist Network are currently paused while we focus on this membership community.
